5 Ingredient Scotch Eggs

Scotch Eggs

Scotch eggs are so simple to make and turn out so delicious but it seems like people are intimidated in making them.  But take my word for it, they are a cinch to make.  Personally, I don’t even add any additional seasoning because the pork sausage is already loaded great flavor.  As a result, you really don’t have to measure anything!  And there are only 4 ingredients required to get these made.

Hard Boiling the Eggs

Hard boiling eggs can be a little bit of a pain, but I’m going to share with you my favorite method.  I find this method the best way because it’s so hard to over do them.

First, you put the eggs in a sauce pan and cover them with water about 2 inches above the eggs.  Then you turn on the stove top to High and wait for the water to come to a rolling boil.  Once the water is rolling, cover the sauce pan and remove from the heat.  Finally, you just have to let them sit for about 10 mins before you remove them from the water and let them cool down enough to handle.  Furthermore, if you let them sit longer than 10 minutes, they’ll still come out perfectly fine. Hence why this is my go to hard boiling eggs method

Frying Them Up!

Once you have the eggs cooled and peeled, you’re going to want to lightly coat them in flour because it will help the sausage stick to them.  Then you need to take about 1/4 pound of sausage (about 1/4 of the pack) and flatted it out and then wrap it around the egg.  The next step is to roll each of the egg sausage balls in a couple beaten eggs then coat them with unseasoned bread crumbs. Finally you can place them into the hot frying oil until they are golden brown on all sides.

These scotch eggs aren’t done just yet because the sausage is sausage is not yet fully cooked through.  As a result, you’ll need to place the golden brown scotch eggs onto a baking sheet and bake them until the pork is fully cooked through (this took about 20 minutes for mine)

Finishing Them Up

Once the Scotch Eggs are fully cooked through, cut them in half and serve over lettuce with a side of spicy brown mustard.  The final and most important step is now to enjoy!
